Planning and preparation for a post-Saddam Hussein Iraq, mid-2001
to January 2003
1140.
The deployment
of a UK land package was announced to Parliament on
1141.
During the
Parliamentary debate that followed, Mr Hoon responded to a
question
about
post-conflict planning from Mr Bernard Jenkin (Conservative), by
stating:
“Certainly
consideration is being given to aftermath issues and the question
of
humanitarian
relief. Obviously, we will design force packages to ensure that we
have
soldiers in
place who can deal with those issues as and when they
arise.”548
